3. Carry out reeces and risk assessments for production areas.

Risk assessment
Is there any water?
There is no water to affect equipment. The area is clear of all contamination so this avoids danger and at worst electrocution.

Are there any wires going across the floor?
There are no wires. This eliminates the risk of tripping from at least one aspect, even if they trip over their own feet.

Is there anything you could burn yourself on?
No nothing that can burn you. It is a very practical area that has little danger in terms of safety aspects.

Will others be walking through the set?
It is a public area where classes are taking place, so we will have to be aware of that. However we plan to stay out of the way when classes are present.

Are there tripping hazards?
Only chairs and tables that will be taken out. The floor is clear of all objects as it is designed as a space to walk through anyway.

Is there anything sharp?
No there isn't. Very secure area with flats surfaces, the most dangerous thing is the corner of a table.

Are there bags on the floor?
No but can be present depending on the day and time. As there are classes going on they have coat hooks and benches to put their belongings on. Sometimes they don't hang them up and they can get in the way. But if there is any obstruction we will move it before shooting.

Could somebody trip over a chair or table?
No because they will be removed. It would be very difficult considering the lack of furniture and space.

Is the room hot or cold?
Can be warm or cold as it is controlled by heating. In general medium room temperature not specifically one way. Being May it would be best if it were cooler due to the warmth outside.

Could the product be damaged?
No it would be pretty hard to break, as it is made out of wood. It is not being moved so unless someone throws it off the surface which is pretty hard to do due to its weight, it should stay in tact.

Could any other design technology work be damaged?
There are other pieces in the area but it is very unlikely as we will be pretty much static and we aren't moving anything.

Are there lights shining in anybody's eyes?
Natural light from the glass ceiling, but not necessarily in their eyes. This is not an issue at present as it depends on the day and weather.

Is there any handling of toxic materials?
There is no reason why anyone should be as we are using a camera and tripod. Also the product which is not moving anyway but nothing is toxic that we are using. The most toxic thing is probably the glass vial for balance on the tripod and even if that were broken it could barely harm anyone. It usually contains an alcohol or spirit.

Will there be any lifting of heavy objects?
The product is the heaviest thing in our production but it is not being touched therefore there will be no lifting of heavy objects. The only things we will be moving around is the camera and tripod which weigh nothing in comparison.

Will there be much use of sharp or electrical equipment?
No sharp equipment as far as I am aware, but electrical in a sense. In terms of the camera, tripod and computer I will be using to edit. There is not really any danger other than me breaking it myself, there isn't too much it can do to me other than electrocution which is unlikely. The sharpest thing will be the tripod's legs.

Are there any personal safety issues when interviewing?
There are not really any interviews in our production but our footage is planned to have me talking to the camera at the beginning, there shouldn't be any personal safety issues. However I do need to be aware of my surroundings and make sure I am conscientious of what is around me. But no there is nothing specific that we know of to plan for in advance.

What if there is use of inappropriate clothing?
We will think about what we are wearing in advance so this is not an issue, but if there is something we have overlooked like a tassel. We will either tuck it in or get someone else to do the part, as safety is more important than who is in the shot. We will do the same even if it is unrelated to safety and just inappropriateness, as we can't have people wearing revealing clothing in the shots.

We chose the tech department as it had the right setting and was very practical in terms of electrics, and space as it is very large. It also meant the product could stay in its original place of storage.
